Tu su origos spravy:ITV digital channels to go subscription-only? ITV has held talks with Sky about the possibility of moving its digital channels to a subscription-only model. The move would mean that ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4, together with their +1 channels, would be unavailable to Freeview and Freesat viewers, as trade paper MediaGuardian reports. Moving its digital channels behind a subscription wall would be a radical decision for ITV; ITV2, with a line-up of shows including Britains Got More Talent, Supernatural and Gossip Girl, is the most-watched non-sports digital channel in the UK. Although ITV has yet to come to a decision on the issue, the broadcaster is facing difficult choices in the wake of the recession and a collapse in advertising revenue. Channel Five may become a subscription channel Freeview and Freesat could lose Channel Five if bosses decide they can make more money as a subscription channel. The broadcaster may have to close its spin-off channels, merge with another broadcaster or become subscription-only to survive the collapse in TV advertising. Ironically, Freeviews massive retune this week was designed in part to give Five access to a larger audience. Free-to-air broadcasting on platforms like Freeview and Freesat is a loss-leader, Five chief executive Dawn Airey told the recent Royal Television Society Conference. "We are looking to consolidate or potentially go pay," she said. "We wont be able to be the same as we are now in terms of structure, in terms of platforms we are on, and in terms of partnerships we have. It will change - and I suspect it will change quite quickly." The Daily Mail claims sources have said Five is looking at moving itself, along with Fiver and Five US, onto pay platforms like Sky and Virgin Media. It would also charge for on-demand access to hit shows like Flash Forward, CSI and Home & Away. But the move would have to raise some £150m in subscription revenues to balance lost advertising revenue from smaller audiences. And it would have to change its line-up to compete against entertainment channels like Sky One and focussed niche channels like Living. Dôležitá vec je neprestať sa pýtať.
